WELLINGTON, August 10. Three tenders were received by the Government !frora four shipping companies for regular servioes between New Zealand and South African ports. The tenders were £50,000 per annum for a six weekly service, £35,000 for a voyoge every two mouths, and £27,500 was the lowest tender for a six-weekly service, consisting of one cargo steamer without refrigerating space, and two steamers with refrigerating space. The Premier was of opinion that the pr'ces weie all too high, and beyond 'the means of the colony. In fact, said Sir Joseph Ward, this afternoon, the tenders were higher for the servioes to be performed than the price paid under the former contract (£30,000 per annum for monthly voyages). He thought the needa would be fairly met by the service which the Tyser Company had decided' to establish. This included calls at South African ports. , On tne Premier's recommendation at a meeting, this morning, it was decided to decline all the tenders.
