THE "PROPHET" RUA.

GISBORNE, August 8. The natives are becoming concerned about the oontinued presence in this district of the Maori "Pro phet" Rua, and h's followers, and a strongly-worded telegram was sent to the Native Minister (Mr Carroll) last night, by one of the local ofaiefe, urging his removal. The Minister has replied, through Judge Edgar, that the Maori Council has powers over the "Prophet." It is understood that Mr Carroll has telegraphed to the leading Bay of Plenty chief, asking him to get the "Prophet" to return.
