NEWMAN.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Saturday. The monthly meeting of the Newman school committee waa held on Wednesday, August Is*. Mr Oalton (ohairman), Messrs H. Fredricksen (secretary), F. MoManus, J. Cooper, and A. Syversen. The headmaster's report for last month show the number on the roll as follows:— Boys 38, girls 25; total 63. The daily average attend anoewas: boys 29, girls 19; total 48. On account of the rough wea her last month the average attendance was considerably below the usual. The Committee decided to reoomraend Miss J. M. Brennan as assistant to the school. The chairman was instructed to have the school portion of fence repairs done at once. It was decided to Btart the agricultural garden as soon as possible, all the neoeaary tools having come to hand. The usual fortnightly daoce in aid of the Hall funds was held on Tuesday evening, and proved a decided success. The hall was packed, visitors being present from all over the district. The catering was i satisfactorily carried out by the U committee. Mr S. Knight, of Eketahuns, supplied the music. Extras were played by Mrs U. Edmonds. Mr H Fredricksen was M.'C. Quite "a number of farms have ohangednands in this locality lately. Dairymen are getting ready for the ooming milk season.
