EIGHT HOURS' DAY FOR MINERS.

Receved August 1, 8.50 i.m., LONDON, July 31. Mr Herbert Gladstone, Secretary of State for Home Affairs, , has appointed a committee to enquire into the probable economic effects of the adoption of an eight hours' day in the mines. Mr Russell Rea, Labour member for Gloucester, is chairman, and the other members are: Professor Cox, of the Royal College of Science; Sir Robert Uiffen, the eminent statistician; and Professor Redmayne, of the Birmingham University.
