MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
1 WORKS COMMITTEE. The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Borough Works Committee was held last evening. The Mayor presided, and there were also jpre-sent—-Ora, J. H. Pauling, J. Elliott, f. W. Temple, T. G. Hoar, W. Morris, E. G. Eton, J.. CL Ewington, E. Feist and E. MqEwen. Plans were submitted by Messr Seaton and Sladden of the subdivision of Mr A. Oaselberg'a propery ih Worksop Road. The plana showed an outlet in Hogg Crescent* The Oounoil approved of the plans. Messrs E. G. Frost and 3. W bittaker wrote asking the Oounoil if they oould have a ditch opposite their sections in the Oockburn Estate, in South Road, filled up.—The matter was left in the hands of the, Mayor and Engineer. The Manager of the Abattoir wrotfe' enquiring whether any reduction in the charge for slaughtering suoking pigs at the Abattoir oould te made. He had informed Messrs Staples and Go. that the charge of 2s 6d for slaughtering pigs would also apply to sucising pigs. It was decided to reduce the price for slaughtering a suoking pis at the Abattoir to Is 6d. Or Ewington's notice of motion, regarding the rescinding of the motion already passed by the Council deciding to obtain a steel tank for the new gas-holder was again discussed. After considerable discussion on the matter, the mover amended his motion, with the consent of the Council, to read: "That the Committee's report recommending a holder of 100,000 cubic feet capacity be amended and alternate tenders be invited from Home for the supply of a holder of 60,000 and 70,000 cubic feet capacity, and that provision be made for a flyer and steel tank, quotations to bo c.i.f., Wellington." The amended report - of the Committee was then adopted. In connection with the drainage of Bentley and Villa Sreefcs the Engineer reported that to carry out the scheme a nine inch drain pipe, commencing in George Street at the underground culvert, - and following the north side of Bentley Street to the Reserve Creek, a distance of 19 chains, would be required. The estimated cost was £l2l. Wheu the drain wan laid the low portion of Bentley Street could be filled up and the footpath and water-table constructed to permanent levels, draining to the Waipoua River. A committee oonsistiug of the Mayor, Crs Pauling, Hoar, Ewington and Temple, was appointed to report on the matter. The Mayor, Crs MoEweu and the Engineer were appointed a committee to confer with the contractors who tendered for the laying down of culverts in Queeo and Chapel Streets, and report to a future meeting.
