MONTHLY MEETING

The Wellington Land Bonrd met on Thursday. Present:—Messrs J. Strauchon (Commissioner), A. Reese, J. Dawson, atid T. H. Rooiusou.

TRANSFERS. Transfers were approved as follows :-«-Seotion 7, blook 8, Wainuioru, J. W. R. Patersou to H. Tamanuhui, Mrs P. Apatri, and W. and T. Whatakorari; seotion 273, block 8, Wainuioru, F. H. Bunny to H. and Te K. Maika? section 6, block 7, Umutoi H,. J. and E. R. Gowler to E. R. Gowler; section 37, block 7, Tararua, G. J. Edwards to Mrs E. M. A. Mason; seotiou 112, block 18, Mangahao, E. Kayser to H. Baker; section 19, blook 15, Managone, J. 0. Cooper to J. MoK. Cameron; seotion 18, block, Mount Cerberus, E. H. Whitmore to H. G. E. Swainson; section 24, block 15, Makuri, E. H. O. E. Starr applied to transfer soetion 71, blook 18, Mangahaoi/to Miss F. M. MoPhail.— Approved, subject to the residenoe conditions being oomplied with. A. Howden asked for consent to transfer sections 5 and 6, Upper Majruri, toG. Baker. S. J. Howden also applied to transfer seotion 4, Upper Makuri, to Q. Baker.—it was resolved to recommend ah amendment of the regulations to authorise one person to hold up to 50 aores and approve the transfers subjeot to this being done. J. MoKenzie applied to transfer seotion 25, blook 15, Makuri, and section 10, blook 11, Makuri, to Miss L. M. Falconer. Dr. Findlay attended lo support of tbe application. The Board decided to accept the applicant's residenoe to d<*te and approve the application, provided that no further funds be asked for expenditure on. the road giving access to the sections.

J. P. Ryan applied to transfer seotion 23a, blook 1, Makuri, to 11. Gregory.—Exemption from residenoe was granted to Mr Ryan to date, and tbe transfer agreed to. With referenoe to the proposed transfer of sections 35, 36, and 9, blocks 10 and 11, Aohanga, from A. Mason to Lang Bros., the Commissioner advited the Board that Lang Bros, leased 959 aores from their father during his life time, but upon his death the property had to be sold, and the proceeds divided amongst eight persons. It was resolved to ask the ranger to interview Mr Mason and get full particulars regarding previous negotiations to sell the land to Mr O'Connor.

Mr Donald Fraser attended with referenoe to a proposed transfer by the Publio Trustee of section 9, blook 1, Mangahao. After the Board had heard the reasons advanced, Mr Fraser undertook to furnish further information, and the matter was held over till next meeting.

E H. Snow applied to transfer section 75, Horowbenua Village Settlement East, to R. W. Keeys. —Approved. MISCELLANEOUS.

A report was received from the Crown Lands Ranger on F. Thompson's application to be allowed to out dead trees on sections 12 and 13, blook 5, Huangarua (Tawaha Settlement). The request was approved, providing Mr Thompson does not damage the standing bush when felling the dead trees. A petition was received f*om J. Hayes and others, asking that sections 11, 12, and 13, blook 11, and seotion 27, blook 5, Makuri, be opened for settlement and balloted for amongst the petitioners. It was deoided to advise the petitioners that seotion 11 is not Crown land, and as tbe other seotions are reserved for forest, and purposes, and are not contiguous to the holdings of the petitioners, there was no power to grant the request. T. J. Whitta asked that the line between seotion 47, block 12, and seotion 13, blook 1, Mount Cerberus, be amended to provide a better fencing boundary—Declined. J. Mackie wrote asking what was to be done with school reserve section 7a, block 16 vVairarapa (Dyer Settlement).—To be advised that as the seotion might be wanted for a school site, it is not con- | sidered advisable to lease it in the meantime.

It was deoided to fix the price to be charged H. T. Ellingbam for the additional area next to section 50, blook 12, Mount Cerberus (area 166 aores), at 26s per «ore.. The application is to be subjeot to oost of survey of section 50, and of the additional area.

A report was reoeived from the Crown lands ranger on reserves in the Mangaone district. It was resolved: Seotiou 9, block 5, to be vested in the County Council; seotion 35, blook 9, reserved for soenery purposes; seotiona 149 and 161, blook 10, Commissioner to see whether the road deviation now taking place will interfere with the letting of the sections. The Grown lands ranger reported on tbe Mount Bruoe forest reserve, and it was decided to recommend that the reserve be fenced in. The ranger reported on C. 1«. Gregory's application to lease section 23c, block 1, Makuri. It was 'resolved to decline Mr Gregory's application and request him to keep his stock off the reserve, the Government to be recommended to authorise funds for feucing in the reserve.

J. EUmers applied to buy or lease section 26, blook 5, Makuri, or to have it made a water reserve.—To be advised that as the seotion is already a road reserve there is no power to sell or lease it.

Mr J. Drysdale attended and asked for au extension for twelve months of bis milling license, to out the timber on lot 4, of section 12, block 7, Mangaone; aleo for the right to use the iron tram-line for three years through lots' 3 and 4. It was resolved to' chargo Mr Albretchseu royalty on all timber out by him on lots 1 and 2, block 7, Mangaone, and to reserve to Mr Drysdale the right to run his tram through lotß 3 and -1 for three years for a width of eight feet.

J. MoPhee and Mrs M. McPheo applied to lease sections 68 and 69, block 1, Mangaone.—lt was resolved to call for tenders for grazing on this land for six months.
