Hamilton Monk, or who said he was a solicitor of the Supremo Court in New South Wales, appeared at the Auoklund Police Court, yosterdsy morning, charged with obtaining 5a by false pretences. Accused said ho waahis father's only son, aud was awaiting a draft from which he could repay the money. Dotective Henderson said he thought. Monk had been victimising a good mauy people. The Magistrate (Mr Dyer) said if Monk v;us a member of the legal profession ho was certainly not an honour to it. Such people were pests. He sentenced Monk to oue mouth's imprisonment with hard labour.
