HOCKEY AS IT SHOULD BE PLAYED.
(To the Editur). Sir,—l should like to paint out to the Wairarapa referees some very bad and dangerous errors some of the players are allowed to indulge in. (1) In striking the ball some players are allowed to aooop the ball into the air. It was a very noticeable feature in the match, Kai Kabas against Carterton, at Carterton, last I'hursday. The Masterton players most of the time scooped the ball, and on three oocasions the ball rose fully 20 feet into the air. It is very dangerous, besides being unfair to the opponents. The rules of 1905-6 clearly read that no player must scoop or under-cut the ball. (2) When a team has the bail in the striking circle, aud it is kicked either deliberately or not, a penalty goal shall be awarded; this, also, was noticed at the same match, Masterton saving two goals by foul play. If Mr Noble Campbell wishes to argue on this point 1 }! am ready to point out to him his errors of last Thursday.—l am, etc., "WINGER"
