MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of theMasterton Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor presided, and there were also present:—Ors J. H. Pauling, J. Elliott, F. W. Temple, T. G. Hoar, W. Morris, E. G. Eton J. O. Ewington, and E. McEwen. Mr T. G. Mason wrote with regard to the widening of Makora Street. He stated that there w6re now 17 houses in the street. The street' was forty chains in length without an intersecting street. The bridge was only fitted for the traffic of 25 years ago. He was prepared to hand over to the Borough a'bout 20 chains of land for street widening. Others would give their portion if the Council would widen the road and construct a footpath along the length widened. For many years there had been praotioally no money spent on the street, and now it was a busy thoroughfare.

The letter wa3 held over for, consideration at the special meeting to be called to deal with street widening.

Mr W. Sellar wrote drawing attention to the state of the foothpath in Columba Road, between Johnston. Street and Bannister Street, and asking that some metal be jptifc down in that locality. The matter was left in the hands of the Engineer. It was decided to affiix th 9 Borough seal to the deed of conveyance of ltpd from Mr Jepson to the Borough' Council for the extension of Hessey Street. Pursuant to his notice of motion, Cr Ewington moved—"That the resolution passed at the meeting of the Council on July 10th, deciding to have a steel tank for the new. gasholder be resoinded with a view to re-opening the whole question' and oousidering a proposal to keep the expenditure within the loan estimate." Cr Eton seconded the motion,

After a somewhat lengthy disoussion, the motion was held over until next Tuesday evening.

The confirmation of the building by-laws was also held over until next Tuesday evening.
