CARRIAGE OF PLATE GLASS AND MACHINERY.

MATTER BEFORE THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. Mr Donald Donald bronchi under the notice of the Maaterton chamber of Commerce, at their meeting, yesterday, the great difficulty experienced in getting large pieces of plate glass and bulk machinery from Wellington to stations north of the Rimutaka incline by rail. He contended that the tunnels over the incline were too small to allow of the proper carriage of tfae«e goods. This deficiency meant great risk, and often great loss to the country tradespeople, and he thought the Railway Department should at once be urgod to provide such accommodation on the railways as would ensure the safe carriage of the goods mentioned. The question not only applied to Masterton, but to all stations as far as Napier. He -moved "that the Railway Department be asked to pro vide special constructed trucks for the conveyance of plate glass, and bulk machinery from Wellington to Napier.'' The motion was carried unanimously.
