AUCKLAND v. SOUTH SYDNEY. By Telegraph—Press Association. 1 Beoeived July 18, 7.47 p.m. SYDNEY, July 18. Auckland teat South Sydney, today, by eight points to six points. The looal men pressed from the start. Oann, fending off several opponents, crossed the line, but Burleigh failed m the attempt at goal. The Auckland forwards came with a fine dribbling rush, but Burleigh prevented what looked like a certain score. Sydney rallied, and with a combined attack, the ball went out close to the Auckland line. MoOabe came through the scrum, and got the ball as it returned from one of the backs, raoed in, and passed to Burleigh, who scored. No goal resulted. The local men continued to have the best of it, and compelled the Aucklanders to foroe. One of the looal men was penalised for an illegal tackle, and Magee placed a goal. Afc half-time the score was:— South Sydney 6 Auckland 3 In the second half the Aucklanders determinedly stormed the local 25, but the local defence was excellent. Time was drawing near when the Aucklanders opened the game up, antl the best play of the match was witnessed. Young sent the ball out to Smith, who streaked as straight as a dart from half-way for the local line. Collared in the 25's he passed to Gledding, who ran round behind the posts. Magee converted. A free kiok was awarded, to the local men right in front of the * goal, but McMahon'a kiok struck the post. Time was called with the score standing— Auckland 8 South Sydney 6 The teams to represent the Masterton Club against Qreytown and Tuhirangi, on Saturday, will be finally selected after Gymnasium practice, this evening. In view of the strong teams both those Clubs place in the field all members of .the looal Club are requested to be in attendance. Jt is fully expected that Ureytown will make a stubborn fight against the Mastertoa Seniors, so that it behoves the latter to get as inuoh combination as possible. The following team will repiesenfc Red Star against Carterton, on Saturday:—Williams, Walker, Wrigley, MoLaohlau, Darville, O'Connell, Welch, Warner, McKenzie, 0. Clarke, Templetou, acorrar, Chamberlain, Dixon and Fulton. The final match for the Junior Banner will bo played between the Mastertou Juniors and the Tuhirangi team, at Morrison's' Bash, on Saturday next.
