MASTERTON GASWORKS.

KEPORTv BY THE MANAGER. The Manager of tbe Masterton Corporation Gasworks reported to the meeting of tbe Borough Works Committee, last evening, that the amount of gas made daring the month of June was 1,621,900 cubic feet as compared with 1,421,300 oubio feet during the month of June, 1905, being an increase of 203,600 oubio feet. The revenue for tbe month amounted to £62 i 148 7d. ihe \eDort stated that the plant and buildings were in good order, with the exception of the old retort house roof, which badly required repairing. Ten new meters had been oonneoted since June Ist. Tbe gas made during the month showed an increase at the rate of 14.22 per oent., and the gas suld per meter an increase at the rate of 20 per oent. The Manager asked the Committee to give the question of a showroom and sales department for gas fittings, etc., early consideration. It was pointed out that the mains were about to be extended, and the season for gas stoves was approaching, and with the increasing cost of other fuel, the gas department should seize every opportunity to make the people of Masterton familiar with the cheapness and convenience of gas for cooking and heating purposes. That could not be done without proper facilities for showing and explaining Jfthe [use of the various gas appliances. These facilities at present did not "exist, and the Manager was that the Council was losing business. There were now six applications for the extension of the gas main along Colombo Road. The distance to the exbra applicant's residence was about five ohaius and the cost was about £B. The Council's authority was asked to carry out this work. Councillors agreed that there was a necessity for a suitable room to show the various gas fittings, heat- | era, cookers, etc., to advantage, and a committee, consisting of Ors Pauling, Temple, Elliott, Eton and Ewington, was appointed to consider the matter and report to a future meeting. It was decided to notify the W.F.O.A. that tbe Council would require the Druids' Hall a week hence, 1 and the question of how the hall would oe utilised was held over pending the above committees' report. The Manager was instructed to submit a report on the cost of roofing the retort house. The Manager was instructed to oontirue the gas main along Colombo Road as mentioned in his report. The report was dopted.
