EKETAHUNA COUNTY COUNCIL.
(From Our Own Correspondent). The Eketahuna County Council met on Saturday. There were present :-—Crs Mobs (chairman), Davie, Lowes, Fitcailbly, Dawson, Dorney, Falkner 'and Redpatb. Leave of absence was granted to Or Griffith. The Chairman and Or Falkner and the Clerk were appointed a committee to make enquiries regarding the transfer of Barrell's traction engine lioense. It was deoidetf to make application to the Department of Bailways for permission to pat a footbridge alongside and connected with the railway bridge over the.Maagatainoka River between Newman and Hukanui; also to enquire the terms under which the Department will grant permission for the same. The Overseer was instructed to report to the next meeting of the Council upon the valae of the timber on roads in the Nireaha District. The Chairman and Or Falkner were appointed to represent the Council oh the Commission to enquire into the apportionment of the .cost of the maintenance of the Ruamabanga Bridge. The resignation of Mr D. McDonald, as poundkeeper, was accepted, and Mr Q. J. Edwards was appointed to fill the vacanoy. ; A committee consisting of Crs ! Falkner, Dorney, and Pitcaithly, i was appointed to report to the next { meeting on the Tawataia Tollgate question. Or Pitcaithly expressed his unwillingness to aot on the Committee. It was decided to inform the Eketahuna Town Board that their complaint regarding the Parkville Loan had been remedied before they had held their meeting. The resolution passed at the last meeting regarding the Hamua Reserve was rescinded. Crs Lowes, Davie, Pitcaithly and the Chairman and Overseer, were appointed a Committee to report to the next meeting on stock bridges in the Mancjaone Valley. Cr Dawson gave notice to move at the next meeting, "That the wageß of the surfacemen in the County be increased from 7s to 8s per day, and that the number of men be reduced by one or two; also, that the Council take into consideration the question of the wages of tbe County staff." i On the motion of Or Dorny, j seconded by Cr I<alkner it was decided that the surfacemen be paid j for ba]f a day on the oooasion of the | late Premier's funeral. It was decided to ask Mr Bell to contribute towards the cost of the erection of a bridge over Spring Creek, The alterations suggested by the Chairman and Overseer to the old Road Board office were agreed to. Crs Lowes and Falkner were appointed a Poand Committee to meet the Eketahuna Town Boad and confer regading the erection of a new pound.
