WELLINGTON RACES. JULY STEEPLECHASE WON BY IRISH. By Telegraph—PreßS Association, WELLINGTON, July 1L The Wellington Raying Club was again favoured with fine weather fur the concluding day of its winter meeting. Tnere whs a large attendance, which included the Governor and party. The oonrso, though drier than on the first day, was somewhat sticky, an interesting afternoon's sport, was provided. Irish appropiiated the Steeplechase Uandioap in fine style. Cuiraguo had no difficulty in downing his field iu tha Final Hnrdle Handicap. Superior horsemanship on the part of Jenkins enabled Maui to score a meritorious win in the Winter Oats Handicap. The amo'int put through the machine (including £1,556 on (be double machine) totalled £15,421, as Bgainst £11,313 for the corresponding meeting of last year, a sum of £26,876 was put through the machine for thei two days, a3 compared with £27,12? for the wintermeeting of last year. The winning combination, Steeplechase (Irish) and Winter Oats (Maui), paid out £7 7s for each £1 iuvested. ' Results:— Onslow Handicap. Ailsa 1, St. Claimer 2, Sir Percivale 3. Also started Captain Shannon, Tonderghie. Won by a length and ahalf, a length separating second and third. Time, lmin 21 4-sseG. Dividend, £3 ss. Trial Plate.—Wirral 1, Landwem 2, Compass 3. Also started—Mies Candle, Monsieur Beaueaire. Won by half a length after a yunishing finish. Time, lmin 22 2-ssec. Dividends, £1 16s and 16s. Final Hurdle Handicap.—Cuiragno 1, Pushful 2, Magnificent 3. Also stared— Exmoor, Monarque, Sardonyx, Waiwert, Bounoe. Uui- ■ ragno drew away at the top turn and though challenged by Pushful j at the distance won comfortably by two lengthe. Bounce fell at the last hurdle. Waiwera was fourth. Time, 3min 31seo. Dividends, £5 and £1 2s. JULY STEEPLECHASE HANDICAP. Irish, lOst 81b 1 Playfair, lOst 71b ... 2 Kruger, 9st 91b 3 Rongoa, lOst 61b ... 0 Lissa, 9at 71b 0 Irish, who was always in a prominent position throughout took command of affairs round the back of the course in the second mile, and won easily by twenty lengths. Lissa came to grief at the sod wall, and Rongoa at the last hurdle. Time, 6min 3sec. Dividend, £2 12s. ■ Winter Oats Handicap.—Maui 1, White Star 2. Rose Petal 3. Scratched—Gawain,Galahad, Hatley. A fine finish; won by a bare length, a head separating the sacond and third horses. Time, lmin 50 4-sec. Dividends, £2 12s and £3 6s Second Hack Hurdles.—Prospector 1, Tirole 2, Black Squall 3. All started Won by two lengths, a quarter of s length separating the seoond and third horses. Time, 2txin 57 4-ssec. Dividends, £2 10s and £7 Bs. Thorndon Haok Handicap.—Arruamento 1, Pawa 2, Silvershell 3. All started. Won all the way. Time, lmin 21 4 ssec. Dividends, £2 18a and £2 3s. V.R.C. STEEPLECHASE. Received July 14, 7.35 p.m. MELBOURNE, July 14. The Steeplechase resulted : - Decoration ... .. 1 , Syringa 2 Bellis . ... ... 3 Betting—s to 1 Bellis, 6 to 1 Decoration, 8 to 1 Boisdale, 20 to 1 Syringa. Won easily by 15 lengths. Syringa beat Bellis by four lengths. Bom bastes was fourth, and Up-to-Date eighth. Boisdale turned turtle at the last fence. Young Creswiok also fell. Time, 6min 31sec.
