TARANAKI PETROLEUM.
In view of the importunt developments during the last few days, in the farther discovery of strong indications of petroleum over an extended area of the Ca'Tingfcon Road District, where the Taranaki Oil and Freehold Company are shortlj to commence operations, a good deal of activity has been evinced in oil aharos at Now Plymouth and other parts of the colony. Referring to the reoent discoveries, the Taranaki Herald says:—There is not the slightest doubt that the prospects are most encouraging, and that the oil-bear-ing area is of considerable dimensions, but what the development of the petroleum industry will mean to the district it jq hard to calculate. It would sat us moving along the road of prosperity iu a manner that even the most sanguine would not possibly have looked for a few years buck.
