Thurtday. The weather during the past week has been boisterous. The heavy rains and gales hare caused Ihe rivers to flood. The roof of Mesrss Quinlan and Sons sawmill at Atea was torn off b? the wind, and a settler in the Hukanui bad two of his windows blown in. A large number of standing trees have been blown down. „;< Mr Porritt, relieving teacher at Kakariki left here on Monday. The newly appointed mistress has arrived and taken up her duties. At areceut meeting of some of the Nireaha settlers a move was made to form an association to secure the reserve block of COO acres at Nireaha for farms for themselves. It is to be hbi.ed that the' Government will let all the landless of the colony oave an equal chauoe of securing sections of the iund. The farm of Mr Nicholls ut Nireaha has been let to a resident of Wellington. The present lenant Mr Turner intends removng to ftongptea. Regret is' expressed by the residents here at losing a Pettier who has made himself so popular.
