CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE CONGRESS.
Received July 11, 9.20 a.m. LONDON, July 10. The sixth congress of the Chambers of Commerce has opened hero, three hundred and forty delegates being present. Lord Elgin, who is presiding, said he would watch the discussion of the various subjects with the greatest interest, in view of his presiding 'it the Colonial Conference next j ear. Received July 11, 9.58 p.m. LONDON, July 11. Mr Drummond, delegate from Montreal, moved the Canadian Boards of Trade and Manufacturers Associations' combined resolution urging the Governments of the United Kingdom, colonies and dependencies to (?rant each other preferential treatment on a reciprocal basis, and hopiuii that the Colonial Conference would give effect to the principle. Lord Avebury said it would be time enough to talk of preference when Great Britain and Canada started on an equality of duties. Messrs Beale (Sydney) and Beauchamp (New Zealand) warmly sup ported the resolution. Mr Beale promised Mr J. Chamberlain a magnificent leception if he visited Australia. The debate was adjourned.
