MR J. CHAMBERLAIN.

Received July 10, 8.40 a.m. LONDON, July 9. All the newspapers contain congratulatory notices of the services of Mr Joseph Chamberlain, who celebrated his 70th anniversary on Saturday. Some generous tributes were received from the Liberals, and thousHuds of telegrams and letters, including many from Royalties. Received July 10, 9.52 p.m. LONDON, July 10. The demonstration at Birmingham, on Monday, obiefiy recognised Mr Chamberlain's strenuous Parliamentary activity and devotion to ' national and Imperial ideals. He was the recipient of a great number of congratulatory messages, including one from the Queen, and also telegrams from the colonies. The stock exchanges sent an address. At Bingley Hall, in the evening, in the presence of an pnthudlastio crowd of ten thousand people, Mr Chamberlain received over • one hundred addresses of congratulation. He delivered a vigorous speech, reviewng his political life and vindicating his attitcde towards the great problems in recent politics, and insisting that the strengthening of tho bonds of union of the Empire was the hignest object of statesmanship, lie was confident that the reforms ho advocated would be achieved. Personally he was satisfied at the way things were moving.
