HARVEST RETURNS.
WELLINGTON', July 3. Particulars of the actual yields of the last harvest are now available. The yield of wheat was 30.60 bushels per acre; cf oats, 35.86 bushels; of barley, 34.54 bushels. After taking into consideration the quantity available on February, 1906, and the quantities required for Sued and consumption, there is an apparent surplus for February, 1907, of The total yields are: Wheat, 6,798,934 bushels; oate, 12,707,982 bushels; barley, 1,024,045 bushels. A COTTAGE BLOWN TO PIECES. OAMARU, July 3. A small cottage at Kakanui, occupied by « man named Young, was blown to pieces on Saturday night. Young used gelignite in his occupation, and had a quantity in the cottage. Some neighbours observing a fire in the place was moving over towards it when the cottage was blown to pieues by_a violent explosissa. They had a narrow escape. Young was away at.the time. The explosion was heard miles away. •
