MR P. HAMILL'S NEW BRICK BUILDINGS.
The brisk condition of the building trade that has existed in the business portion of Mastertou for some time past, is a sure indication that trade generally is good, and that business men have confidence in the future prosperity of the town. A now luilding that is just about completed is that of Mr P. Hamill, draper and nierocr, and it occupies a prominent position in Queen Stroet, oppo&Uo the Post Oliieo, and adjoining Mr llamiil's present promises. The steady increase in Mr Hamill's business hes compelled him to seek larger and more commodious promises. The structure is 38$fe.?t x 50 feet, and consists of two sloroys, the bottom one of which is for Mr Hamill's own uso, and tha upper one is divided into suites of offices, most of which are already let. Tho front of the building is of a decidedly attractive appearance being artistically finished in cement stucco, and having a lofty glassroofed verandah. The entrance to the main doorway is paved with black and white floor tiles, which form a pleasing contrast to the rest of the front. On either side of the entrance are plate glass show windcwß. which are each 12 feet x 12 feet in size, fitted into Watson's patent window frames. Tug windows are thoroughly dust proof, and inside the most up-to-date appliances for displaying goods to the best advantage have been fitted up. The first impression that one gains on stepping into the main shop is its commodious and well-lighted appearance. It is 33 feet x3O feet m size, and is finished in a manner that is a credit to architect and contractors alike. It is Mr Hamill's intention to considerably increase his stock.of general drapery, besides enlarging the mercerj department. A boot deportment ii another branch of the business that Mr Hamill intends to establish when he moves into the new premises, and for this Durpose a speoial room connecting with the main shop has been ) included in the building. Very ample provision has also been made for storage room. The architect lor the buildings is Mr 0. G. Monro, and the nontractors are Messrs : King and Son, the plumbiug work being executed by Mr P.
