INSPECTION OF MEAT. AMERICAN GOVERNMENT TO BEAR THE COST. Received Jane 15, 9.30 a m. LONDON, June 14. Router's agent states that a committee of the United States House of Representatives has agreed to an appropriation of two million dollars for reform of the meat-pack-ing trade, the Government instead of packers bearing the cost of meat inspection. All meat prodacts must bear Government labels as a guarantee that the contents are wholesome. A label stating the date of manufacture is not required, and the use of preservatives is left to the' discretion of the Secretary of Agriculture.
PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT DISAPPROVES OP THE BILL. Received June 15, 10.58 p.m. NEW YORK, June 15. President Roosevelt entirely disapproves of the Meat Inßpeotioa Bill as drafted in Committee. He deolares that it is inadequate to meet the circumstances of the issue.
