The Matron of the Masterton Hospital acknowledges with thanks the receipt of parcels of old linen from Mesdames J. Loogstaff and N. Beetham. Mr Haybittle, junr., who played the soprano 1 oornet for the Peilding Band at the recent Nelson contest, is lying seriously ill in the Masterton Hospital. Mr Geo Cathro, business manager of the Te Kengi Pai Company, is at present in Masterton making arrangements for the appearance of the company here. A Dunedin telgeram states that the Drainage Board, after a long sitting in committee, decided not to aooept any of the applications received for the position of engineer. The Wairau Hospital Board cently decided toj cancel a conditional contract of £12,000 for a new hospital. The arohiteot now demands progress payment amounting to about 5 per cent, on that amount.

, The members of the Park Committee paid a visit of inspection to the Park yesterday, and made arrangements for the planting of a number of trees and shrubs. It was decided to make a promenade of the stop bank now being erected along the Waipoua River bank. The Committee ultimately intend to extend the promenade around the Park, and along the front of the Cemetery. The work of excavating the cen aores for the public baths and lake is already in hand.

The weekly meeting of the Y.M.C.A. Literary and Debating Sooiety was held on Wednesday evening. Mr Anderson ocoupied the chair, and there was a fair attendance of members. A Westport telegram states that a huge mountain slide baf blocked the Builer River above Lyell, forming a dam.
