Ceylon files by the Ortona contain a Reuter's London ihessage to the effect that the Cunard, Peninsular and Pacifio Lines bad announced a joint Australian-Far Eastern service, it is assumed with the object of securing passenger trafflo against keen foreign competition. Captain Fletcher, Commander of the Ortona, in an interview, stated that unless two or three of the great English companies combine againflt the North German Lloyds they would be run off line after line until the Germans had praotioally the whole of the passenger trade of the world in their hands. He could say 'from his own knowledge that a big combine was coming off in England before long againut the German Company.
