FIRE ON THE GOTHIC.

Two fires occurred amongst the Gothic's wool after she left Teneriffe.

THE VESSEL BEACHED.

Received June 8, 10.53 p.m. LONDON, June 8.

A smell of fire was noticed on the Gothic on Sunday. Next day it was discovered that No. 4 hold was on fire.

A quantity of burning cargo was jettisoned, and steam injected into the hold.

The Are was apparently extinguished, but on Wednesday the smell of fire was again noticed. By Thursday morning. the fire had made considerable headway, and passengers were advised to disembark at Plymouth. When the hatches were lifted a dense am ok a arose.

Two Government tug hoats gave assistance. The attempt to extinguish the fire was a failure, and the Gothic was towed to Cattewatter. Ths seacocks were opened, and the vessel was beached last night.

The fire has extended S to the saloon, and a large hole has been burnt ia the floor.

The aargo has a very heavy list, and there are fears that the* vessel will topple over y as the tide ebbed.
