PRESENTATION TO SERGT. O'MALLEY
PRELIMINARY - MEETING. A meeting of the friends of Servant O'Malley, who is shortly retiring from the bolice force on a pension,' was held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening. The Mayor, who convened the meeting, occupied the chair, and there were also present Messrs W. B. Chennells, G. \V. Sellar, W. L. Falconer, J. 0. Ewington, E. MbEwen, G. Heron, B. J. Dolan, A. 0. Scrimgeour, 11. D. Bennett, O. E. Daniell, R. Brown, A. Haughey, D. Dobson, J. Montgomery, E. Rawson, and Rev. Dean MoKenna. The Cihairman explained the objeot of the meeting, which was to consider the question of making a presentation to Sergeant O'Malley. He suggested that Sergeant O'Malley should be presented with a purse of sovereigns and an illuminated address. He moved in that direction. Mr W. L. Falconer seconded the motion.
The motion was unanimously oarried.
On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Mr Chennells, all present were formed into a Committee with power to add. Mr B. J. Dolan was appointed Secretary and Treasurer, The matter of taking out and distributing subscription lists was left in the hands of the Secretary and Mr Daniell. Ic was decided tbat the district to /be canvassed should be the Masterton Licensing District.
The Chairman and Secretary were authorised to prepare the illuminated address. It was decided. to close the subscription lists on the 21st instant. A subscription list was opened in the room, and over 25 guineas was subscribed.
