NEW SCHOOL SITE FOR PAHIATUA.
A deputation from Pabiatua waited oh the Wellington Eduoation Board, on Thursday afternoon, to urge the necessity of acquiring a new achool site at Pabiatua rather tban spend the £1,300 grant on the present premises. Mr Moßobie, who headed the deputation, read a resolution that had been passed by the Sohool Committee, wbioh stated that the present school properly was disconnected. It was at the side of a creek that was used by the town as a sewer, and cases of diphtheria occurred every year. Most of the buildings were old and out-of-date. Pour sites had offered aa iin alternative, and one had been selected that was in every way suitable. The soil was rich, and the place was well away from the traffic. It consisted of some seven acres, wbioh ouuld be acquired for £9lO, while they had every reason to believe that the present property, land and buildings be sold for£l,Doo. .Laud was rapidly increasing in value, and if the Board did not now secure a new site, it would be met with a serious difficulty in the future. Another speaker said new sohool could be erected for aKu and as there was a strong movement to give facilities for technical education, it was necessary to have increased accommodation. The chairman thanked the deputation for the fair statement they had made, and said it would be for the Board to apply for a grant for the purpose named.
