The newspaper Tribune, a Liberal journal, admits that the repatriation of Chinese coolies is a complete failure. Every consideration of honour, the journal states, had compelled the Liberal leaders to give effeot to drastic reforms enunciated in the election speeches. Otherwise the disappointment of the party was extreme, and the reckoning exacted was correspondingly heavy.
