A Napier telegram states that a very thick fog enveloped the town and bay yesterday afternoon and evening, and several of the trawling fleet-fonnd" a difficulty in making port. The trawler Wanona went ashore about 5 p.m. on the town beach about 700 yards beyond the end of the Esplanade. The steamer Fairy and an oil launch went to her assistance about 8 p.m., but after several ineffectual attempts to get the trawler off it was decided to abandon the task for the night. The trawler Savaii also got on to the beach near the breakwater, but was subsequently got off. A Gisborue syndioate whioh has taken up the development of a mine of fullers' earth in the Thames district have struok a very good thing. There is a mountain of this mineral easily mined and requiring no other treatment but crushing and screening. It is of high value and in large demand not only for toilet purposes, but is used largely on woollen works for taking grease out of wool. Other Gisborne folk are interested in the development of oinnabar measures, which have long been known to exist at the Thames. The miners there have but one thought, and that is gold.
