MASTERTON TROTTING CLUB.
MEETING OF STEWARDS.
A meeting of the Stewards of the Masterton Trotting Club was held in the Club Hotel last evening. There were present—Messrs W. D. Watson (ohairman), P. Buiok, D. MoNair, W. Whittaker, J. O'Meara, J. Dixon and T. W. Miller. The New Zealand Trotting Association wrote with reference to holding a proposed New Zealand International Exhibition meeting at Ohri«toburch during the Exhibition. It was intended to give a stake of £I,OOO. The Stewards resolved: "That the matter had their sympathy, but they regretted that they were not in a sufficiently strong financial position to support the proposal." A letter was also received from the New Zealaud Trotting Association stating that the New Zealand Trotting Stod Book had been completed,and published, and asking whether the Club would purchase a copy. It was decided to purchase a copy of the Stud Book. The New Zealand Trotting Association further wrote stating that Mr J. W. Burke, of Eltham, had written to the Association stating that a horse owned by him, named "Giggles," had been stolen from Eltham, and that he under stood that the horse in question had been nominated for the Greytown meeting on Monday. He objected to the horse being registered under any other name. Mr Burke also understood that an application had been made to register the horse under the name of "Abbatoir." The Secretary of the Association stated that if the statement with regard to the horse having been stolen was correct, it must not be allowed to start at Ureytowa. Mr Duncan said that the facts of the case were correct. He understood that the horse had been purchased at the public pound in Masterton. The New Zealand Trotting Conference wrote stating that all notices of motion in connection with the alteration of the Rules of Trotting must be iu the hands of the Secretary of the Conference before June Ist; also asking the Club to appoint a delegate to the Conference, which is to be held in Wellington in July. Mr T. Duncan wasjappointed delegate to represent the Club. The Secretary was voted the sum of two guineas for the extra work eutailed in connection with the protest lodged against Paint iff at the last trotting meeting.
