Received May 30, 9.30 a.m. MELBOURNE, May 30. Mr Doe, manager of the Murchijon branch of tie Commercial Bank, has beeu arrested for alleged irregularities, involving £2,200. AN INSURANCE CASE. Received May 30, 9.57 p.m. PERTH, May 30. In a case iu whioh the assignee of a policy of insurance on the life of Henry Blake proceeded against tbe Equitable Lite Society for the recovery of the amount assured, defendant Society objected to the payment ou the ground that JBlake, when insuring, bad failed to notify the' Society tbat he was suffering from a serious disease. The jury returned a verdict for the amount claimed. PETITION AGAINST HOME RULE. JRnCeived May 31, 1.5 a.m. MELBOURNE, May 30. In connection with the petitions against Home Rule, Mr A. Deakin, Federal Prime Minister, states that some controversy took place over the sending of them through the Governor-General to the Imperial authorities. The petitions were sent to the Governor-General without any reference to hia Ministers, and Lord JNortfacote declined to send them Home. Mr Deakin threw out a hint at the time that the petitions might be sent through him, and that be would hand them to the Governor-General, but the hint was not taken.
