HIGH COMMISSIONER'S KEPOKT. The Industries and Commerce De partment has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, May 19th, 1906 *'The mutton market is, qaiet, and there is a dull sale tor all qualities. The supply un hand is moderate. The average price for Canterbury brands is 3%d per lb for light weights and per lb for heavy heights. The avorage price for North Island mutton is 3%d per lb, for beat quality and 3%d for sec-ond-class lots. The lamb market .is weak, the weather of late being very unfavourable to the sale of lamb. JUarge shipments are expected, and the market price is not likely to advanoe at present. The average price for Canterbury lamb is 4%d per lb, and other than Canterbury is quoted at per lb. I'bere has been no alteration *in the beef market since last week., The butter market is steady, and prices are well maintained. There is a general and active demand. Moderate supplies are coming forward. l'he average price of choice New Zealand hulter to-day is 101s per owt., and Danish 206s per cwt. Siberian butter is quoted at 955, and supplies are likely to fall off from there, l'he cheese market is firm, and a much better demand exists for both white and coloured makes at 61s per owt. Tie hemp market is quiet, and only a small business is doing, the market being affected by the expectation of heavy arrivals. The price of g.f.a.a., Wellington, on spot to-day is £3l 10s per ton; April-June shipments are quoted at £3l. The stock on band is 495 tons against 1338 tons for the corresponding period of laßt year. Fair current Manila'on spot to-day is £42 per ton, with a firm market and improved demand. There bos been no alteration in the cooksfoot seed market since last week. There is a large business doing in wool, and prices ire strong. The current quotations for Bradford tojjs are—'36'a low crossbred Is 6d per lb, 40'e ditto 44's medium crossbreds Is 9d per lb, 50's half-bred a Is 11 %d per lb, 56's quarter-bred <2s 2d per lb, 60's merinos 2s 5d per Jb. There is a good demand for kauri gum of best quality only. ,Current quotations are ordinary to fair three-quarters scraped, £6 15s; fair half-scraped, 85a; brown fair half to three-quarter scraped, 77s 6d; brown piokings common to good, 445; bush fair to good pale and amber, scraped, £7 2s 6d per owt. Stock 1247 tons.
