ATTEMPTED MURDER. WELLINGTON, May 16. Allan Miucholiffo. ngod 28, was found guilty at the Supreme Court to-day of attempted mnrder of Mabol Clarke, ou February sth, and also with attempted erimiual assault. The facts of the case were that JBinchcliffe, who had been out of woik, was belrieuded by a man named Clarke, and taken into his bou°e as a guest. While staying at Clarke's Hiuohcliffa became intimate with one of Clarke's daughters. The mother in the course of time suspected that something was wrong ""with her daughter, and asked her to see a doctor. This tne girl refused to do. She told Uiuchcliff* of her mother's suspicions, and he, saying, "We will die together," administered aconite to the girl, and took a doee himself. Both were in great peril afterwards. Since then the girl had given birlh to a chid. Justice Cooper sentenced HinchcliPe to two years' imprisonment for attempted murder, and to three iwOntha for attempted suioide, tbe sentences to run concurrently.
