DETAILS OP THE DISASTER. 1,106 PEOPLE KILLED. 3,832 HOUSES DESTROYED. THE SEIOCKS LAST FOR TWO DAYS. AREA OF 30 SQUARE MILES DEVASTATED. LAND SUBSIDES IN SOME PARTS. | Received May 14, 11.5 p.m. SYDNEY, May 14. Details regarding the earthquake at Formosa show that 1,106 people were killed, and 1,862 were injured. Three thousand eigut hundred and thirty-two bouses were destroyed, and 2,121 partially destroyed. Early on the morning of March 17th, the inhabitants near Kagi were startled by several slight shocks, followed by a severe one, accompanied by subterranean explosions. Tbe shocks continued at intervals of from five to ten minutes during the day. They continued throughout tbe day following, and abated on March 19th. An area of about 30 square miles was devastated. The surfaoe was much oraoked in all directions, and water spurted up for several feet. In some parts the land subsided. Lakes were formed in other places, exuding mud, which formed into hillocks. '
