The directors of the Standard Oil Company recently declared a quarterly dividend of 15 per cent., on the £20,150,000 outstanding stock, compared with ]0 per cent for the previous quarter and 15 per cent, for the corresponding period of last year. The payment calls for £b,022,500. During 1905 dividends were declared amounting to 40 per cent, compared with 36 per cent, in 1904, 44 per cent, in per cent, in 1902, 48 per cent, in 1901 and 1900, and 33 per cent, in 1899. A syndicate has been formed in Nelson for the purpose of prospecting the flat country around Waimangaroa by boring, with a view to determining the depth of the coal seam in that locality. A lease of 1,000 acres has been ap plied for, and approved by the Westport Harhour Board. The syndicate intends to sink two bores by means of the diamond drillone near the coal outcrop, with the object of cutting the coal at a probable depth of 500 ft, and the second in the middle of the plain, where it is expected that coal may be found at a depth ot not less, and probably considerably more, than I,oooft. Those comprising the syndicate are prepared to expend £I,OOO in boring, and anticipate being able to get down to a depth of 1,500 ft. Business Men ot Master ton, you see the Name everywhere "B. J.
