SUPREME COURT SITTINGS.

CHRISTUHURCH. CBRISTCHURCH. May 7. At the Supreme Oourt criminal sittiags, to-day, true, bills were found in all oaaea except those against ,7 rank William Sohutz, indecent assault (two charges), and John Orosbie, theft. Joseph Brown was sentenced to six months imprisonment on a charge of stabbing Walter Eae, on May 3rd. William James, who pleaded guilty to breaking and entering a dwellins house by night, was sent to gaol for two years. Stephen Sarjent received a sentence of three months for the theft from a person of a purse containing £7 10s. Matthew Pinlay Patterson was charged "that on December 6th, at the general election in the electoral district of Asfaburton, having voted once, he did apply again for a voting paper in his own name." Accused affirmed that be was drunk at Aebburton, and did not vote, but voted later on at Tin\vnld. The evidenoe for the Grown was to the effect that anoused had voted at. both places. The jury returned a verdict of guilty, with the addition that they did not think ac ctisod acted with any oriminal intent » His Honor said he could not accept that verdict. If there were no criminal intent accused could not be found guilty. The jury then returned a verdict of guilty with a strong recommendation to mercy. Accused was sentenced to • one icontLi's imprisonment. The sittings will resume tomorrow morning.

WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, May 7. At the Supremo Court, Jas. Deveuport, who had pleaded guilty to broakiug and entering at Palmerston Noitb, was sentenced to nine months' iinru'issnraent. George Lee, alias Jones, alias Wilson, alias Baxter, and George .Robertson, alias William Ireland were found guilty of breaking aud entering, and theft, respectively, and were remanded for sentence. Frank was aoquitted of a charge of horsestealing. The grand jury threw out a charge of indecency preferred against James Barroll. In the case of Thos. Goodger, the charge of murder was reduced to one of manslaughter.
