THE AUCKLAND POLICE FORCE.

AUCKLAND, May 1. Tbe insufficiency of the police force in Auckland has been brought forcibly before the public on several occasions but, a statement made at tbe Police Court, yesterday, showed that the position is more serious than some people seem to think. Sub-lnspentor Gordon stated that the present foroe was not sufficient for the ordinary police duties of Auckland. He also stated that on one occasion there was only one policeman on duty in the city. Mr Kettle, S.M., expressed surprise at tbe statement. When he came to Auofaiand he saw at once there were not sufficient police, but ne understood then that tbe force was to be considerably increased.
