OPAKI NEWS.
(Prom Oar Own Correspondent.)
Since Thursday last a continuous gale has been raging in the Opaki district. It is a difficult matter to mention the settlers who have suffered in some way, for from Messrs Ooradine and Whittaker's mill tbrou£h to Masterton they have all sustained losses more or less. Many grain, hay and straw stacks were gblowu down by the gale and distributed all round the paddocks. Several sheds have been unroofed, thus allowing the rain to get in and destroy hay, which had been stored for the winter. Unfortunately Saturday proved little better than the two previous days, consequently the competition of the Opaki Quoit Club had to be postponed for a week. It is to be hoped that the weather will have improved by then. Arrangements are being made for a football match, Opaki v. Rangitumau at an early date, and it is being looked forward to with keen interest as each team has every confidence of viotory.
