MAURICEVILLE NOTES.
_ -»- —i (From Odr Own Correspondent). MAUKIOEVILLE, Monday. We are having the heaviest gale experienced here for many years. It commenced on Thursday, and lasted without intermission till Sunday morning when it abated for some hours, only to renew its force' again. At the time of writing it is still raging. Its general direction is from the west; but at times furious blasts came from all points of the compass. The front of Mr W. Mackenzie's new shop, now in the course of erection, was blown into the street, and together with a fine show-window, was destroyed. The part of the roof of a cowshed belonging to Mr Hillas was ripped off. One or two teleaiaph poets and some trees on the road to West Maurioeville are down; but otherwise no damaged is reported. The barometrical column showed moat startling vagaries, while the gale was at its fiercest, and the maximum velocity then was recorded as 55.1.
