The weather was somewhat boisterous for the second day o£ the Wellington Rooiug Club's autumn meetiug, a treah northnrly gale raging, while heavy showers of rain fell as the contestants filed out for the Autumn Handicap. There waa a good attendance. The turf was in good order, though it was on- tho slow aide. Tho racing generally was an improvement upon the first day, and in the case of the Autumn and Suburban Handicaps the finishes wer L } keenly fought out. The sum of £13,407 whs put through the ( machiue, ranking a total of £25,876 fur tho meeting, as against £11,527 for the corresponding meeting of last year, uud eclipsing the record sum of the Autumn gathering of 1903 by £;;,2BD. The winning combination (Lyrist and (JJawain) paid £33 17s on the double machine. The results were as follow: Second Hurdlo Handicap.—Defoe 1, Slow Tom 2, Mocassin 3. All started. Won by a couple of lengths. Time, 2min 51sec. liividends, £6 12s and £1 lis. ' Hutt Handicap—Maui 1, Marguerite 2, Jolly Friar 3. All started. There wns a fine finish between the placed horses. Maui won by barely half a leugtb. Time, lmin 44 l-ssec. Dividends, £7 13s and £1 Bs. Muratai Hack Hurdles—.Riflemaid 1, Soult Maid 2, Uavatina 3. Won easily by three lengths. Time, lmin 31 3-sseo. Dividend, £8 7s and 16s. AUTUMN HANDICAP. Lyrist 1 Achilles 2. Gold Crown 3 Achilles led until entering the straight, when Lyrist and Gold Crown put in a strong challenge, and a "ding-dong" finisn saw Lyrist ob- * tain the verdict bv a length, Aohilles beating his stable mate by halt a length for second place. Time, 2min 12 2-ssec. Dividends, £5 2s and 15s. Suburban Handicap—Gawain li Exmojr 2, Black Squall 3. All started. A magnificent finish resulted In Gawain winning by a neok. Time, lmin 31 l-sseo, Dividend, £5 Bs. Pacific Handicap—Contender 1, Munjista 2, Ito 3. All started. Won comfortably by three lengths. Time, lmin 17 3 ssea. Dividends. £4 12s and £2 19s. NEW ZEALAND ST.'LEGER STAKES. Iflolfc 1 Clanchattan 2 These were the only starters. This was merely an exercise gallop for Isolt, who finished a dozen lengths ahead of ber opponent. Time, Dmin 11 2-sseo. Dividend, £1 2s. Belmont Hack Handicap—Hatley 1, Soult Maid 2, Te Kainui 3. All started. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time, lmin 17seo. Dividends, £3 Gs and 16s. At the annual yearling sales reoenly held in Sydney a bay filly,j half sister to Diffidence and Merriwee, by Sir Foota (imp.), was knocked down to A. Chirnsido, of Viotoria, for 2,000 guineas; also, a bay colt by Sir Foote (imp.) was passed under the hammer to W. Leonard, also of Viotoria, for 1,600 guineas.
