THE PALMERSTON NORTH TRAGEDY.

I PALMKSRSTON N, April 27. \ Maria Harris, charged, with the murder of Frederick Murfltt at Palmerstou on 21st March, appeared before the Court to-day, Dt Martin, in his evidence, stated that prior to operating on the accused in the Hospital after the tragedy she said, in reply to a question by him, that she had shot Murfltt, but had not meant to do so. She bad purchased a revolver with the intention of shooting hersel", owing to being unhappy. She did not know why she did it—it ail happened so suddenly. Murfltt, she said, was going to J,his niece. "We had a and as he was stooping down, pulling a box out uf his room, 1 lifted the revolver and fired."
