THE Y.M.C.A.
(To the Editor)! Sir,—As the winter, approaches with its long nights, one is apt to pause and ask himself the question, what place of amusement and recreation, free from impure influences, has this rising and prosperous town of Maaterton established for its young men? Some twelve months ago, I am informed on enquiry, that the great and noble institution, the Young Men's Christian Association —an Association whiob has done so much in all parts of the civilised world to uplift and strengthen young men for the hard battles of life, opened a branch in this town. Initial troubles, of oourse, presented themselves, and had to be overcome, but now, thanks to the zeal and enthusiasm displayed by those responsible for the control of affairs, Maaterton now has an Association, with quarters that do it oredit. My object in penning these few lines, Mr Editor, is to endeavour to eolist the sympathy of the young men in the Y.M.O.A. cause. A visit to the local rooms ia Church Street, by any of your readers, would, .1 feel sure, be one of pleasure aud pride—pride in the fact that Mapterton possesses young men whoso oonduot and behaviour in the rooms reflects the greatest credit 'on them. I hope that throughout the coming winter, and, indeed, for many years to come this town will have its Y.M.O.A. Let u% as residents, and as a Christian people, give the young men who are engaged in this grand work in our midst all the support and encouragement in our power. By doing that I feel sure that the future will give us in return manly, upright and Christian citizens—l ace, etc., "MASTERTON." April 27tb, 1906,
