The death occurred, at the Greytown Hospital, yesterday morning, of Mr William Watson, brother of Mr G. Watsou, uf Masterton. The deooased, who was 50 yonrs of age, was a native of Ireland, and bad been in tbe colony for about 30 years.
Mr D. Jackson, custodian of the Masterton Park, is at present suffer, ing from a severe affection in the throat, which necessitates his going into the hospital to undergo an operation. He has been granted the necessary leave of absence by the Borough Council.
A Perth cablegram states that Mr Dealiin, tbe Pederal Premier, made a non-committal reply tc a telegram asking if the Commonwealth Ministry intend to recommend cessation of the bookkeening system after October. He added that he saw no cause for alarm. A cablegram from Adelaide states that Mr J. C. Watson, speaking at the Town Hall, said there was still a possibility of two of tbe ' parties working together in Parliament, although neither might obtain all it desired. Mr Watson advocated the Swiss system of defeuoe. Messrs Donald and Sons, Ltd., have just received advice that they have been awarded special first prizes at the Boval Agricultural Show, just held in Sydney, for wool presses, wire strainers, and jaoks. This is the second time the firm has gained these awards, thwy having been gained the only times that an exhibit has been made at this Show. There is much dissatisfaction in military circles in Sydney with the administration by the Military Board. Colonel Antell recently resigned his command as a protest against the administration, and at a valedictory gathering condemned in unmeasured terms the Board. The Minister of Defence intends to obtain a report of Colonel Antell's speech and an explanation. The Freshfleld estate, at Taupiri, consisting of 9,337 acres, subdivided into 36 dairying and grazing farms, was sold yesterday. A large portion' of tbe estate consists of rich reclaimed swamp, well grassed. The subdivisions ranged from 100 to 600 aores. The terms were one-fifth cash, one-fifth in six months, balance in seven years at per, cent. The land realised from 2s 6d per acre for swamp '.and to £l2 per acre for rich grass land.
The inquest into tho circumstances attendine the death of Arthur Beals, who was killed on Wednesday evening, waa held at Carterton, yesterday. The jury returned a verdict that deceased was accidentally killed by his head coming into contact with the Waingawa bridge, while he was leaning too far out of the engine, on which he was employed as fireman. No blame was attachable to auyone. The evidence showed that he was leaning out to see if the injeotor was , ill working order.

Mr Charles Midlane, well-known ; in commercial circles, died at -Wellington; yesterday morning.
