CRICKET.
THE WELCH FAMILY'S TOUR. Daring the Easter holidays the Welch Family of ocioKeters made a toar of the West Coast, and played a number of cricket matches. Oo Good Friday, they played Ohau and a moat enjoyable day was spent. The visitors were entertained by the ladies of Ohau, who provided both lanoh and afternoon tea. During the luncheon adjournment, Mr W. Welch, on behalf of the Weloh Family, thanked the Ohau Club for the splendid way in which they had treated the visitors. The match ended in a tie. The Welch Family made 74 (Ab. Welch 16, R. Weloh 10, K. Weloh 9, A. H. Weloh 8, G. Welch not oat 8) and 71 (Bert Welch 16, F. Welch 11, Artiiur Weloh nut out 10, Albert Weloh 9). Ohau made 83 in their first innings. G. Weloh. took 6 wioketa for 15 runs, E. Welch 3 for 31, B. Welch 1 for 21. In their second innings Ohau made 62, G. Welch taking 4 wickets for 29, E. Welch 3 for 21, and B. Weloh 1 for 7.
On Saturday the Family played Manakau, at Manakau, the game resalting in a win for the Family by 30 rans. The local players entertained the Family with a dinner at the looal hotel, and afternoon tea on the ground. Mr G. Weloh thanked the Manakau Club for their hospitality. The Weloh Family made 48 (M. Weloh 10, 13. Welch 9. W. Welch 8, F. Weloh 7) and 64 (R. Weloh not out 24, Arthur Welch 20, M. Welch 9). Manakau made 45 in their first innings. E. Welch took 3 wickets for 9, G. Welch 3 for 17, B. Welch 2 for 14, and M. Weloh 1 for 2. The second innings of Manakau resulted in 37 runs. E. Welch bowled splendidly in this innings, and did the hat trick. At one stage of the innings he had taken 4 wickets for 0 runs, and finished up with an average of 4 wickets for 5 runs. G. Weloh took 2 wickets for 8, M. Weloh 2 for 14, B. Welch 1 for 6. The matob against Levin was played on the Levin Kecreation Groulnd, on Easter Monday, and a most enjoyable game resulted in a win for the visitors by 10 rnnß The Familyjwere entertained at dinner at the Levin Hotel by the local players, and afternoon tea was provided in the tennis house on the ground by Mesdames B. R. Gardener, Chaplain and Lance, and Miss Sutherland. The Weloh Family made 78 (F. Weloh 20, A. Weloh 11, Arthur Weloh 9, K. Weloh 9), and lost three wickets for 51 runs in ihe second innings CW. Weloh 28, F. Weloh not out 8, R. Welch not out 7). Levin made 68 in the first innings. G. Weloh bowled well, j taking six wickets for 27. E. Welch | took 2 wiokets for 16, and B. Weloh 2 for 23. Levin's second innings resulted in 73. G. Welch was the most successful bowler, taking 3 wiokets for 12 runs, while E. Weloh took 3 wickets for 22 runs, and B. Welch 2 for 18. On Tuesday the final match of the tour was played at Otaki, against Rabui, and the matob resulted in a win for the Family by 21 runs. The visitors were entertained by the Otaki players. The Welch Family made 80, B. Weloh playing well for 27, H. Welch 15, and Arthur Welch 15. In the second innings the visitors lost 3 wiokets for 37 runs, F. Weloh batting well for 21 nut oat. Rabui made 59 runs. i The Welch Family returned to Masterton on Wednesday, and speak in high terms of the hospitality extended to them during their tour. The Family are grateful to Mr W. Welch, of Levin, for his trouble in arranging the various matches, and for aoting as captain, this position being allotted to him on account ot his seniority. Of the four matches played, the Weloh Family won three, the other resulting in a tie.
