STREET LIGHTING.
! The question of street lighting wai before the Masterton .Borough Council last evening. Or Elliot moved "that new aro lights be procured and erected on the telegraph posts in the Bection of Queen Street beyond that whioh has already the services of the arc lamps down the centre of the road." An amendment was proposed by the Mayor "that six new lights be procured similar to those already in Queen Street, and four be erected along the south end of the street, and two towards the Waipoua Bridges." After some discussion the motion was lost and the amendment uarried, the voting on the amendment being—■ Ayee: The Mayor, (Jrs Temple, Hoar, Feist, Ewington. Noes: Ora Pauling, Elliott, Morris and MoEwen. It was then decided to erect additional lamps iu eaoh of the following streets, the number for eaoh street being in parentheses: Wrigley Street <2), Miriam Street (1), Smith Street (I), Reuall Street (3), Hessey Stroet (2), Bunny's Road (3), Kerton Street !(1), Lincoln Poad (2), Cornwall Street (3), Villa Street (2), Dixon Street rear the A. and P. Sooietys grounds (1), Albert Stroet (1), Chapel Street, between Renall and Cornwall Streets (1), Masterton-Carteron Road, near Mr Pownall's (1), Colombo Road, near the bridge over the Makora Stream (1). In addition a two aro light lamp wiil be erected at the junction of Albert Street and Chapel Street.
