bv day labour. Waingawn Camp Road, contract INO 88, delivering 1,180 cubic yards of metal, was commenced on the 2nd instant, and is making
satisfactory progress. Boundary Road, contract No.. 80, syi chains formation and metalling is "reported finished by the conUpper Pernridge and Black Greek Roads: Repairs to the extent of 120 cubic yarda are now in the course of exeoutiou on tho above road, west of Burnett's Road Junction. Upper Taueru Riding. —Wilton a Road: The bulk of tlie timber and ironwork ia delivered on the around, and tho contractor is proceeding with tho erection of the D ier od the eastern bank of the
Te Ore Ore-Bidoford Road: Two hired drays were en«agnd during last month in metalline the length north of mile peg 9, under the supervision of the roadman. Glendona'.d-Wairero Road, contract No. 72 (G.G.) 12 chains of formation and culvertiug: On my inspection of the work on the 4fch instant one-half of the formation was benched out, and tho contractor expected to complete hie contract in the course of a fortnight. 1 have extended tho contract a further length jf four obains, which will exoeed the amount avail-
able from grant by £l. Wainaiora Riding. BlairlogieEaat Coast HoacJ, ooairaot No. 68, delivering 390 cubic; yards of metal for repairs, is almost finished, following vhe completion of contract Ne 68 the contractor wiil proceed with contract No. 67, MastertonWaimata Road; there being yet about 600 cubic yards o£ metal to deliver between the Blairlogie Junction and the i'uueru. Contract No. 80, Long Hill Doviation, 98 chains of fencing: The contractor started operations on the 22nd ultimo. Proposed deviation at Beaumont Hill: As direoted by the Council I have interviewed Mr Praser re the encroachment on hiß fence line. Mr Eraser has consented to the proposal conditionally upon the Ouunoil erecting a substantial fenoe ilong the deviation. The proposed expenditure of aoorued thirds: 1 visited the ground with Councilor Toogood, and it has been deemed advisable to postpone the formation of the road along the Waikarakara until late in the spring. Taneru-Brancopoth Boad: Under the supervision of the roadman, surface repairs are being effected, with hilled teams, to the weaker portions o" the road, north of the
arae * Weraiti-Ferny hurst Road: 1 expect that the complete order for totara will be delivered on the Taueru Bridge site this week. Bangitumau Riding.—Wangaebu Road, contract No. 74: Better progress has been made with this oontraot during the past month; the contractor having increased his strength to five teams. 1 have, however, thought it advisable in the Coancii's interests, to put a man in the quarry for the parpose of obtaining a better amalgamation of the suitable metal available, Oontraot No. 75, 60.16 chains of metalling: Good headway is being made with this contract, and, weather permitting, the oontraotor expects to finish early next week. Contract No. 77, 15 ohaiins of metaltine, was executed last month, and the contractors are proceeding with contract No. 76, 61.60 chains of metalling. {$ Blutf to Rangitumau Koad. The intruding slips on the Blutt Road have been out back, and the material carted to improve some of the dangerous features on this seotion of the road. , Alfredton Riding. —■ Flat Bush Eoad, 37 ohains of formation, etc.: The bulk of the formation is completed and the oontraotor is awaiting the delivery of timber for the construction of his culverts. Contract No. 90, 60.70 ohains of formation and bridging, etc. (L. and G.). let to V. Moßarron, will be oommenoed unon the completion of contract No. 72. Alfredton - Weber Road, Eketa-huna-Alfredton section, oontraot No 65: The seotion from Dunderdale's ( saddle to Alfredton has been fin- j ißhed and the contractor is now en- s gaged at the TaiWataia end. Tiraumea section, icontract No. 78 IG.), 90 chains of metalling: The contractor is making good progress considering the difficulties he has to contead with >n pulling out of the steep river banks. Should dry weather continue fur another fortnight he will complete. Oontraot No. 80, building a 4 x 4 x 48 feet culvert and embankment: The oontraotor reports that the timber is on the ground, and that he ■will start the construction of the culvert immediately. Oontraot No. 92, painting and adjusting the Waitawhiti Bridge (G. and 0.R.): The bridge haa been adjusted and received its priming coat. Pori-Saunders Koad, contract No. 79, accrued thirds, six chains of metalling, has been laid from the junction of the Saunders Road. This covers a very treacherous portion of the road. Barton's Line, contract No. 40, 27 chains of metalling, etc.: This contract, which was abandoned last season, was oompleted last month. Castle Hill and Springvale Roads: A gang of men is employed olearing slips and doing general repairs on the above roads. On the Castle Hill Road the Te Hoe Creek has, in consequence of a heavy landsip on tfie Opposite side, been diverted as to seriously encroach upon the road. The situation has been temporarily relieved by further cutting the roadway into the solid, and removing the toe of the slip. Should che slip further encroach consider 4 - able expenditure will be necessary to protect the roadway at this point, as
a diversion of the road, with a suifc-1 able grade is practically impossible owing to the olose proximity of the ford.
Te Whiti Riding.—Te Ore Ore Roads, contract No. 94 (L.): This work, which has been in abeyance since last season, is now finished.
