PRESBYTERIAN SUNDAY SCHOOL.
ANNIVERSARY SOCIAL. The anniversary social of the Masterton Presbyterian Sunday School was held last evening, in the Presbyterian Cburoh. Mr W. Gordon presided, and there was a large attendance of parents and scholars. The Church.was tastefully decorated for the' occasion.
Tbe annual report stated, inter alia, that the balance-sheet compared favourably "with the previous year's. The number of childrea now on the roll showed an increase of about 20 over last year, making a total of 148, with an average attendance of 104. The chief increase of pupils was noticed in Miss L. JMoGregor's infant' class, her roll numbering 47, with an average attendance of 33: The young women's class had a staff of 16 teachers, and the average attendance was 14. Tbe box collections showed an encouraging inorease. Tho annual picnic was not a suooess financially. Tiie pionio for some time has not had the support it deserved from either ohildren or parents, and this year the advisability of not holding one at all was mooted. The alteration from New Year's Day to the Wednesday following Christmas made very little difference to the attendance. Short addresses were given by the Rev A, M. Johnson, Mr Jas. McGregor, jnr., ex-superntendent of the Sunday School, Mr W. Gordon, Mr R. J. Young and Mr Ai Low. The speakers expressed their satisfaction at the work done during the year. An excellent musical programme was rendered by the members of the Sunday School and Bible Glasses. The Items were as follow:—Pianoforte solo, Miss Ina MoKenzie; dialogue, "A Child's Philosophy," Lexio Green and Jessie B'razer; snlo, Violet Field; recitations, Connie Rayner, Mary Campbell, Violet Field, Reginald Chappell, Dorothy Cork, Reg. Wilton, and Alf. Davidson; dialogue, "Lost and Found," Ethel Green, Eveline McOormiok, Annie Fraser and Rionard Chappell; vocal duet, "Maying," MHa J. McGregor and Mr R. J. Young. The accompaniments during tbe evening were played by Misses J. and F. McGregor. During the evening refreshments were handed around by the members of the Young Women's Bible Class. Oo the motion of Mr Young, a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the teachers and those who had worked so bard to make tbe gathering a suouess. The piano used during the evening was kindly lent by Messrs MoLeod and Young.
