THE PREMIERS' CONFERENCE.

OPENED AT SYDNEY. Reoeived April 5, 11.18 p.m. SYDNEY, April 5. The Premiers' Conference opened this afternoon. The visitors were weloomed by the State Governor. All the States are represented excepting Westralia. The Hon. A. Deakin, Federal Prime Minister, also takes part in portions of the discussions involving Federal matters. The agenda paper oomprises forty-nine subjects, covering a very wide range, submitted by the different States, including the questions of representation at the New Zealand ' Exhibition; holding oombined exhibition at London; admission of Norfolk Island to the Commonwealth; appointment of Higb Commissioner and system of advertising the resources of the States; Federal Agricultural Department; bounties for rural industries. ONLY FORMAL BUSINESS TRANSACTED. Reoeived April 5, 12.28 p.m. SYDNEY, April 5. The Hon. J. H. Carruthers, Premier of New South Wales, has been chosen as President of the Conference. Only formal business was transacted to-day. The Press were excluded. Mr Carruthers will supply a daily summary of tbe business done. The Con ■ ference lasts a week. An uncertainty exists as to whether Mr Seddon intends to come to Sydney to attend the Conference. No information has been reoeived since his reply to the invitation, when he promised to attend, if possible.
