MASTERTON RACING CLUB.
AUTUMN MEETING. SECOND DAY. The Autumn Meeting of the Masterton Kaoing Club was concluded, yesterday, in very favourable weather. The oourse was a shade heavy, but, nevertheless, good times were registered. The attendance waa about equal to that of the first day. Ou the whole the racing was very interesting and the finishes were close, the last race being won by a bare nose. The sum of £6,280 was put through the totalisator. as against £6,450 for thecorregponding day of last year. For the two days the sum invested on the totalisatur was £12,928, as compared with £13,147 for the last Autumn Meeting, bwing a decrease of £219. As on the first day Mr Thos. Dunoan, tbe Secretary, with the able assistance of Mr W. Gillespie, had all arrangements complete for the meeting. Following are the details of the day's racing:— HACK HURDLE HANDICAP, of 60 sovs; 1 }4 mile. 137 H. H. Pbarazyn's b g, Oryx, aged. (Apremont Fawn), 9st 61b (J. O'Connell) 1 69 H. Hodge's Silverlene, 9st 41b (T. Pritchard) 2 228 Mrs H. Watson's Wind, list 51b (R. McGregor) 3 Also started—Bo Pemmican, 9st 81b; 38 Hoity Toity, 9st: 31 Rino, 9st. On tbe rise of the barrier Oryx was the first to get away, and when the stand was reached he and Wind were together in the van, with Hoity Toity last. Oryx led out of tbe straight with the remainder of the field bunched behind bim. At the back stretch Wind joined tbe leader with Pemmican close behind him. Hoity Toity was now beginning to close no. Silverlene was among the leaders at the willows, but Qryx and Wind gradually drew away, and at tbe second to last hurdle Hoity J.'oit.v lost hid rider. Over the last hurdle Oryx was easily first, and he still held that position to the Judge's box, and won by abopt four lengths. Silverlene came fast on the outside, and finished about two lengths ahead of Wind. The winner ran a great race, be never being headed from the rise of the barrier to the winning post. From a fair start Scenery was the first away, and, with Maui, she led to the willows, Waikakaho being last to move. At the distance, Sherlock Holmes rushed to the front, just clear of Maui. The latter led into the straight, and won by length. Hatley came fast on the outside, and a good raoe resulted with Riflemaid for second place. Time,' lmin 32seo. Toalisator, 869. Nee, on behalf of the owner of Hatley, against Maui on the grounds that the latter bad won more than £2OO in stakes prior to August Ist last. The protest was not upheld. At the baok Bounce went to tbe front, and, along with Waitarere, led the field to the willows. Here Bounce still held the lead, but on tbe field entering tbe straight Capulet went away to the front, and won by about three lengths. Ensign led all tbe way until about balf-way down the straight, when Tangerine took uu the running. Within a few lengths from home I Moetoropuku passed Tangerine, and won by a little over a length. From an almost Hying start Aboriginal got well away, and Lady Lethe was left at the post. Marguerite made a big bid for the race at this &tage, but she was unable to get through tbo field, and Kudu, who had been iu the front rank all through, shot out and got home, after the beat race of the day, by about half a length. Jockey Club has decided on an all-round raising of prize money at the Spring, Meeting, the opening of which will be deferred till September 29th. This will enable the Club to get a two-year-old race on the programme, and permit the Metropolitan Handicap being ruu on Eight Hours' Day. The prizemouey for the Spring Stakes and Craven Plate has been raised tc £750, the latter carrying Mr Geo. Stead's Cup. The money for the Randwick Plate has been increased to £I,OOO. The Spring Maiden Stakes has been eliminated, and a Breeders' Plbt9 of the value of £1,250 substituted. The prize for the Derby baa been raised to £2,000. MANIOPOTO'S TRACK WORK. SYDNEY, March 30.
