NEW ZEALAND v. MELBOURNE. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 26. Tbe cricket match, New Zealand v. Melbourne Club, was continued at Lancaster Park, at noon to-day, when the weather was dull and threatening, and the wicket on the heavy side and the outfield was slow. The rain hold off until the lunch adjournment, when a steady drizzle commenced, but not heavy enough to prevent play being resumed. after the close of Melbourne's innings, rain fell heavily, and at 4.15 p.m. the umpires inspected the wicket and decided that tbe ground was too wet for further play. With four wickets down for 140 Melbourne continued their innings, Armstrong (72) and McLeod (40) being the not out men. 'lhe score slowly advanced to 163, when Armstrong was caught at short-leg, by Lusk, off Moragbau, for. a fine innings of 83, made without a chance. Irwin fullowed, and another good stand resulted, the score being taken to 199 before McLeod was well caught and bowled by Tucker. Irwin and Heuty then stayed together until lunch, the score then being 218 for six wickets. On resuming Malone quickly finished the innncs off for 228, securing the last four wickets, with ten balls, for three runs. Irwin v)as stumped, after making 32. Ilenty suffered a similar fate when 15. Laver was clean bowled before scoring, and Butler was caught by Tucker off Malone for nothing. There were five extras. Malono took seven wickets for 64, Downes 1 for 67. Monaghan lfov 50, abd Tucker 1 for 7.
