THE LICENSING ELECTION.

(To the Editor). Sir,—ln answer to "An Admirer of Consistency's" attaok on me, through the columns of the Age, I have no hesitation in calling it a cowardly one. He had me completely oornered, knowing that I had no time to reply. Had it have been a Parliamentary eleotion he bad dared not do so. I may tell him that I never have posed as a teetotaller, and when wanting a drink 1 always go in at the front door to get it. At the same time 1 have a little sym-' pathy for "Consistency" for not knowing the difference between the Showground and the Park, and for his benefit I will inform him that the Park is owned by the ratepayers of the Borough of Masterton, and the Showground by the Agricultural Society, and it would be great presumption on my part to interfere without the sanction of the owners. I think, myself, that we might have much cleaner sport on both the Showground and Racecourse as well as the Oval, without the drink. Thanking ycu in anticipation.—l aui, etc., JOHN CROSS. March 16th, 1906. (Through an accident the above letter was not reoeived at this office until Saturday afternoon last, although written by Mr Cross on the 16th inst. The letter is now pub lished at the request of Mr Cross.—■ Ed. W.A.)
